Our competence in genome editing
In recent years, CRISPR biomolecules (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) were discovered and developed into a facile genome-editing technology. Similar to a word processing program, which finds, deletes or replaces words or letters, these RNA-protein complexes (CRISPR) search for certain DNA sequences in a cell, cut them and allow the cell to paste in new DNA information. Thanks to our long-standing experience with CRISPR technology, we now offer researchers a broad portfolio of genomic scissors.
Correcting genes that cause disease
A lot has happened in the fields of medical research and biotechnology since the first reports of success in deciphering the human genome. Scientists have long been working on identifying genes that are associated, for example, with cancer. And now they have a path forward: to specifically modify the sequences of these genes using genomic scissors. The results to date are very promising. However, it will still take some time before genome editing can be routinely used in medical therapy.?
New paths in disease research
Yet treating diseases by the repair of gene defects is only one of the possible fields of application for CRISPR technology. It is also used in basic and pharmaceutical research. By knocking out genes, scientists learn what functions these genes have and how diseases develop. Our CRISPR tools are used, for example, to create model systems for diseases – these systems provide important new findings for developing and testing novel medicines.

Reliable production of active ingredients

These cells have been modified by means of genome-editing technology in such a way that they are less susceptible to contamination in the bioreactor, thus making the production of active ingredients more reliable and more stable.
